Mission Statement

The mission of Exceptional Teens & Adults is to provide opportunities for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to live independent and extraordinary lives.

Description

In 1995 founder Rose Walton, who has a son with intellectual disabilities, could not find a place for her son to stay while she worked. He was 15 years old, and research revealed that there were no programs in the area for teenagers or young adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. In June of 1999, with personal savings and a loan from the Louisville Central Community Center, she opened Exceptional Teens & Adults Adult Daycare Center. In August of 1999 the Exceptional Teens & Adults Teen Center opened for school-aged teenagers. In 2002,Exceptional Teens & AdultsTeen Center Inc. became a 501c (3) non-profit organization.

The beginning of growth came in, 2008 when Exceptional Teens & Adults moved to its current location at 724 W Breckinridge St. The growth continues with the beginning of a two-phase expansion project, "1 Million People = $1 Million Dollars". This project will include the addition of a gymnasium and center for the teen program.
