Description

Lawyers Have Heart was established in 1991 as a way for the legal community to give back by rallying enough spirit to join together as a group to accomplish a significant public service -- to fight heart disease and stroke, while promoting exercise and fitness.

Coronary heart disease and stroke are this nation's number one and number three killers respectively, claiming more than 910,000 American lives per year. The American Heart Association (AHA) invested more than $474 million in fiscal year 2005-06 for research, professional and public education, advocacy and community service programs so that people across America can live stronger, longer lives.

On June 9 th, over 4,500 individuals will join us in the fight against heart disease and stroke by running, walking and volunteering in the 17 th annual Lawyers Have Heart 10K. Since the inception of this event, the Washington area legal community has raised more than $3.7 million! They have been overwhelmingly generous! Furthermore, for every $1 raised by Lawyers Have Heart, at least .87 cents is used to directly fund the AHA mission.

AHA is the largest source of non-governmental funding for cardiovascular research in the country.
