Mission Statement

DKI's mission is to help the global public to name the questions it cares about and to figure out together how to solve them.

Description

DKI seeks to become the global platform that supports our core constituencies to engage in dialogue, learning, and action for the social change they seek. By hosting an open conversation--in-person and online--on the most pressing issues of our times, we seek to foster a worldwide exchange of viewpoints, ideas, and people-powered solutions.

Dropping Knowledge began as a project of the Tides Center, a leading provider of nonprofit infrastructure services and incubator of nonprofits in the USA, to create a global Table of Free Voices, which was initially planned to take place in the USA. Because of U.S. visa restrictions for many of the people around the world that Dropping Knowledge wanted to invite to participate in this event, a decision was made to hold the ToFV outside of the USA. Berlin was chosen as the new location because one of the founders of Dropping Knowledge was based there. A new organization, dropping knowledge e.V., was formed in Germany to support the production of the first ToFV, which took place in Berlin on September 9, 2006 to launch Dropping Knowledge.

As of December 2006, the core functions of dropping knowledge were organized into a single organization - dropping knowledge international (dki). dki is currently operating in the United States as a project of the Tides Center - a leading provider of nonprofit infrastructure services. Under the leadership of Ceasar McDowell, dki is now building international governing and advisory boards and launching multiple efforts around the world.
