The mission of St. Michael’s School is to educate students in the Catholic tradition with the foundational knowledge, skills, self-esteem, and moral responsibility to work to their full potential and to have the courage of St. Michael to lead and serve in their church and community.
Vision Statement
Together as students, teachers, staff and school families, St. Michael will create an environment in which all students will become active members of society by modeling the teachings of Christ through prayer and learning. While providing accessible and affordable education, students will be prepared academically to meet the challenges of education, work and life. St. Michael will develop lifelong learners, strong moral decision makers and healthy individuals in mind and body through respect and service toward the church and community.
Philosophy Statement
St. Michael’s philosophy is to respect and nurture the variety of cultures present in our parish school community by teaching and modeling respect for God, oneself, the dignity of each person and all living things. Our philosophy is to spread the Gospel in actions and words, while creating a safe environment to facilitate learning with partnership between families. With parents as primary educators, the partnership between the families and the school is an important aspect for a strong foundation in basic knowledge, life skills and moral values is essential in the development of outstanding citizens.
Description
St. Michael’s is a 111-year-old Catholic school serving 312 students in grades TK-8. We are located in the South Los Angeles neighborhood of Westmont. The student body is primarily Latino (85%) and African American (15%). We are a Title I school with more than 88% of our students receiving free or reduced price meals. The majority of our families receive early tuition assistance.
