Mission Statement

MISSISON STATEMENT: The RRC employs a unique, holistic approach to sustainable community development by supporting local residents in efforts to promote the physical and spiritual development of the community. Residents remain at the center of our efforts to encourage sustainable community development. The RRC way creates vibrant, diverse communities that serve as models nationally and internationally.

The Value of Volunteers to RRC: Our organization's primary mission is to provide the resources necessary to empower local residents to enact the changes they wish to achieve in their neighborhoods. In order to build such cohesive social networks, RRC recognizes the unique value volunteer service provides to communities as only volunteers can spur truly grassroots-level community engagement and activism. At RRC we recognize that the economic and physical improvements for which communities so often look will only prove sustainable if they are an outgrowth of residential cohesion and leadership. Volunteers therefore form a foundational role in our organization as they help us achieve the social and spiritual components of our mission that are requisite in sustaining all of our community development and building endeavors.

Description

RRC (Resources for Residents and Communities) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1989 with the mission to revitalize the Reynoldstown community economically, physically, socially and spiritually. Reynoldstown is one of the oldest African-American neighborhoods in Atlanta and was established when former slaves migrated to the area to find employment after the Civil War. The 55-year-old neighborhood association remains in existence as a civic affairs and community advocacy organization and continues to work closely with RRC. Some examples of the successful projects supported by RRC are: Over 300 owner-occupied homes renovated; Amberwood Village Apartments, a 30 unit affordable rental complex; development of 39 single family housing units; development of 46 new townhomes; and development of 32 unit affordable apartment complex.

PROGRAMS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS: RRC currently has four primary business lines:

(1) Housing Development: home rehabilitation, affordable housing development

(2)Property Management: affordable rental units and townhomes

(3) Community Building: resident leadership, outreach, volunteer projects

(4) the HomeOwnership Center: homebuyer education, counseling, financial literacy, and foreclosure prevention counseling
