Apply Now! WCSV.ORG/volunteer Goal of Position: Provide sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife with exceptional free care, rehabilitation and the opportunity for release. Supervisors: Hospital Manager, Wildlife Supervisor, Wildlife Technician, Volunteer Coordinator Time Commitment: A minimum commitment of three months, one continuous four-hour shift per week. Morning and afternoon shifts available, 9 am to 1 pm, and 1 pm to 5 pm, seven days a week. Duties: Animal care team volunteers work directly with a variety of wild animals. Duties include but are not limited to cleaning cages, washing dishes, doing laundry, general housekeeping, feeding animals, providing enrichment, setting up enclosures, administering medication, and releasing successfully rehabilitated animals. Training: Completion of New Volunteer Orientation and Intro to Wildlife Rehabilitation Class. Additional on-the-job training provided by the animal care staff. Requirements: Must have a keen interest in learning to work with and handle a wide variety of wild animals. Good physical stamina, the ability to follow exact instructions, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Food preparation includes live mealworms, dead mice, rats, quail, and crickets; peanuts, walnuts, and other nuts. Bees and wasps may be encountered on site. Must be at least 16 years of age. Emotional Considerations: Volunteers are responsible for saving many lives and giving many animals a second chance, but no matter how well volunteers and staff do their jobs, many of the patients will simply not make it. Wild animals must remain wild as their very lives depend on it, and volunteers must be able to remain detached enough from individual patients to allow them to be rescued, rehabilitated, and released.

Supervisors: Volunteer Coordinator Time Commitment: Varies Duties: Help staff tables or booths for WCSV at various events. Speaker opportunities available for those interested in presenting to classrooms, clubs, after school activities, or adult groups. Training: Completion of New Volunteer Orientation and Intro to Wildlife Rehabilitation Class. Additional on-the-job training provided by the Volunteer Coordinator and Outreach Volunteers. Requirements: Completion of the three-month minimum commitment as an Animal Care Team Volunteer. Must be willing to learn about a variety of wild animals and display an understanding of wildlife rehabilitation to be able to answer questions from the public. Conversational abilities in languages other than English are a plus. Emotional Considerations: Outreach volunteers may encounter large crowds of members of the public, some of whom may pose difficult and uncomfortable questions about wildlife rehabilitation, policies, and what happens to animals that are deemed unreleasable. Will encounter families and children.
