Mission Statement

Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy works with both public and private landowners to protect land through conservation easements and other methods. Our mission is to preserve, protect, and connect the natural lands and waters that make the places we live special.

Description

Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy works with both public and private landowners to protect land through conservation easements and other methods. We follow up by carefully managing the land we protect, ensuring that the our conservation work is not only at the best professional level but that it contributes to the quality of the communities we serve. Our educational programs and stewardship days help children and adults learn to be better stewards of the land they care about.

All of these efforts are conducted within the framework of a green infrastructure vision that is developed in collaboration with the communities where we work. Green infrastructure is defined as a system of interconnected open space that preserves natural systems and water quality and provides benefit to human populations.

We conserve and care for land in Oakland, Macomb, Lapeer and Genesee Counties and within the watersheds of the Huron, Flint, Shiawassee, Rouge, Belle and Clinton Rivers. We currently conserve approximately 1,154 acres, which includes 163 acres in six nature preserves, 771 acres in sixteen conservation easements and an additional 220 acres through seven stewardship partnerships.
