Mission Statement

The Mission of South Jordan City is:
South Jordan City provides service oriented, responsible government, consistent with the community's values, priorities and expectations for a high quality of life, enhancing the City's fiscal health, providing professional and innovative services, and managing the City's resources, while planning for the future.

The Mission of Leisure Services is:
South Jordan City Leisure Services Department creates quality of life and community through people, parks, places and programs.

Description

South Jordan was settled in 1857 by Alexander and Cathrine Lince Beckstead. South Jordan was primarily a rural farming community when it became incorporated as a town in 1935. In 1960, the population was 1,354 and by 1970 the population had more than doubled to 2,942. The current estimated population of South Jordan is 49,312. While the City has operated parks since its inception, recreation programs were formally added to the services offered by the City in 2002 with the formation of the Parks & Recreation Department (later named the Leisure Services Department. The City also offers a variety of special events designed to bring the community together. Some of the major events throughout the year include the: Daddy Daughter Dance, Easter Egg Hunt, Country Fest, Halloween Fest, St. Patrick's Gold Rush & Sights & Sounds of Summer.
