Mission Statement

Students at the Lycée International de Los Angeles are taught to read, write and speak both French and English by the end of their elementary education. However, LILA aims to offer more than the mere knowledge of two languages. The ultimate goal is to form biliterate students capable of functioning in two linguistic worlds. To achieve this goal, LILA specifically avoids dividing students based upon their dominant language. At the very foundation of the educational pro¬gram is a policy of integration: young Americans must be integrated into French classes and French children must study English along with their Ameri¬can classmates. Thus by getting to know one another, LILA students are able to appreciate both the French and American cultures; they are able to compete in both systems; they are able to feel at home in an American living room and à l'aise at a French dinner table.

Description

Our purposes are:

to inculcate a perspective that extends beyond the borders of the student's own country and culture

• to create open and orderly minds in a secular and humanistic environment
• to graduate students who can achieve acceptance and success in universities, both in Europe and the United States
We work with Students, Parents, and the community at large who want experience and be involved in the continued growth of an educational style that gives the student a bi lingual and bicultural education.
LILA's goal is to prepare all of its students for one of the baccalaureate programs, programs designed to ensure a solid educational foundation in all areas of study. Both of these programs are designed to create students who are aware of the world that surrounds them and have the tools necessary to become active agents in that world. From preschool through twelfth grade, the LILA student creates a foundation and builds upon it to achieve the goals the school has set.
