Mission Statement

First Book-San Antonio provides new books to San Antonio children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy--access to books.

Description

On a national level, First Book has distributed more than 100 million free and low cost books to children in need and the programs that serve them through an extensive volunteer network of Advisory Boards, First Book National Book Bank large-scale book distributions and the First Book Marketplace, offering high-quality titles at reduced cost. First Book has offices in the U.S. and Canada. Founded in 2013, First Book-San Antonio works to promote and facilitate the distribution of new books to children in literacy programs in the San Antonio area. With the help of existing volunteer community programs, corporate and non-profit partners, and a variety of literacy efforts, First Book provides a steady stream of new, free, or low cost books to children in preschools and after-school programs, mentoring and tutoring programs, shelters, day care centers, and beyond. First Book-San Antonio is comprised of volunteers from all sectors of the community who want to share the magic of books and encourage a lifelong love of reading.
