The Public Health Ambassador Program is a volunteer emergency response effort sponsored by the City of Kansas City, Missouri Health Department.
Through this initiative, the Health Department is teaming up with community groups to develop a health and crisis response network to help keep Kansas City safe and healthy.
The Public Health Ambassadors learn about various health issues such as chronic diseases and assist the Health Department in educating the public throughout the year. Also, Public Health Ambassadors receive training on emergency preparedness, for assistance during and after disasters floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, and other natural events. There are also a range of other roles that Public Health Ambassadors can fill at the Kansas City Health Department on a daily basis.
Most roles do not require specific credentials or licenses. A willingness to help is the only credentials anyone needs to participate. All volunteers will learn about the range of roles available during orientation and will complete a questionnaire to identify roles that best fit their skills and experience.
Being a public health ambassador is fun and rewarding! Not only will you be making a positive impact in your community, but you'll also have the opportunity to learn new skills, use current skills in new ways, receive community service hours and a letter of recommendation (for employment opportunities).
