Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
To strengthen the community by providing a place to learn practical skills and time-honored crafts in a multi-generational and
co-operative setting, that in its essence, sets an example of sustainability and conservation of resources.
Street Level Cycles Bike Shop: This low-income community resource is run in a working bike shop and participants have the opportunity to learn how to fix their own bicycles, and become bicycle mechanics. Students also learn about small business practices and develop skills as teachers and sales persons.
The drop-in, weekly sewing studio provides access to industrial sewing equipment and instruction on individual projects. Participants work closely with the instructor, and are encouraged to take pride in
their creations. Open lab hours are also provided for individual sewing projects.
The boat shop, one of our new programs, is located just feet from the waters of Aquatic Park and will be a place to bring the aquatic community together. The instructors will focus on small craft
and traditional building methods, highlighting sustainability in materials. Model boat workshops will be held for youth, and youngsters will be invited to apprentice in the shop, where they will learn the importance of traditional handcrafts.
The café is a project we hope to accomplish in the coming year. We envision an outdoor café where parents and children, as well as the general public, can relax and enjoy the beauty of aquatic park.
