The YWCA Middle Rio Grande's mission is the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women.

Description

YWCA programs include Health Equity which helps to save l ives through education and early detection of breast cancer by providing access to mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women, we feed 2,500 children in home-based daycare by providing training and subsidies to caregivers so that children receive healthy meals and snacks, collect clothing for Our Sisters' Closet which provides professional clothing needed for women to enter and re-enter the job market. We also have a program for teenage girls; TechGYRLS that teaches girls ages 9-13 how to succeed in the fields of computers and technology. Lastly, YWCA opened Henderson House, the nation’s first gender-specific transitional home for homeless women veterans and their dependent children.
