Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Founded in 1992 by a group of local parents with children interested in the performing arts, Peninsula Youth Theatre's (PYT's) mission is to provide outstanding theatrical learning experiences that develop leadership, emphasize responsibility and foster teamwork in a supportive, respectful environment. Our unique family atmosphere successfully uses theater performances and classes to help kids develop a strong sense of self-esteem and nurture critical social and communication skills. Additionally, we are committed to providing an enriching theatrical experience in our schools, thereby reinforcing the positive role that the arts play in academic success. PYT is a children's theater for actors ages 7-20 and our classes are for ages 3.5 and up. We operate as a school of performing arts.
PYT brings high quality children's theatrical entertainment to 30,000 audience members, parents and program participants every year. PYT enhances our community by being the home of a highly regarded cultural, artistic and educational organization.PYT is committed to providing an enriching theatrical experience within our community and schools to demonstrate and reinforce the positive role the arts play in academic success. Our major programs consist of:
CenterStage Productions: PYT presents 5 full-length productions each year, involving more than 550 young actors under the guidance of PYT's Artistic Director. These productions feature professional directing, choreography, music direction, sets, lighting and costumes. For most of these productions, PYT casts every child who auditions.
Stories on Stage: Eight short plays per season based on school reading curriculum and designed to inspire further reading. Children attending the 45-minute shows are given bookmarks with suggested reading lists. PYT commissions many of these plays, which are new dramatic adaptations of well known or Newberry Award-winning books.
School of Performing Arts: PYT offers a full spectrum of classes for children age 3 ½ to 18, taught by Bay Area theater professionals who have experience working with children. Class offerings include: drama, story telling, voice, singing and dance.
Pizazz!: PYT's touring group brings performances into Silicon Valley classrooms and to public events.
Theatre in the Park: Two-week summer classes for elementary school-age children that have the kids create a production - from rehearsing to designing and making their own costumes and sets. Each class ends with a free, outdoor performance that is open to the public.
