Mission Statement

The Shelbyville-Shelby County Public Library is a community resource dedicated to life-long learning and committed to the freedom of information. The library will acquire, maintain, and provide materials which support independent learning for the citizens of Shelby County.

Description

Shelbyville-Shelby County Public Library collects, preserves, and makes available to all residents of the county library materials in print and in electronic formats to serve patrons' recreational, informational, educational, and leisure needs. The library is committed to supporting a lifelong enjoyment of reading and learning. In addition to one main facility centrally located in Shelbyville, which includes adult and youth services, computer stations for public use, and a reference department, the library maintains a genealogy and history branch located adjacent to the main library. In addition, the library's outreach department endeavors to make materials more accessible through its Mobile Library, homebound delivery, and outside programming operations. Patrons are provided with an attractive, current, and balanced collection of library materials for recreation and self-enrichment in addition to programs that promote early literacy and a facility open for community groups' use.
