Mission Statement

Chicago Training Center, using the sport of competitive rowing, creates opportunities for underserved Chicago youth to challenge themselves to achieve their athletic and academic potential. The CTC's nurturing environment motivates students to become physically fit, to build teamwork, self-esteem and leadership skills, as well as develop and advance their educational and life goals

Description

The Chicago Training Center is open to CPS High School students. Participants learn to swim, use of an indoor rowing machine and how to row competitively in a team boat. In addition, training is provided on exercise and nutrition.

Participants are also provided tutoring support and trips to unversities and local, national and international events. The UIC Human Performance Lab helps to monitor participants' progress.

The program is offered year-round at no cost to participants, who are also paid a small stipend for incidentals.

In addition to our programming, CTC runs quarterly social events, an annual benefit gala and a fundraising program for the development of a community boating center on the South Branch of the Chicago River.
