Mission Statement
The mission of DAYTON PLAYHOUSE, INC. is two-fold. First, this playhouse was formed to provide high-quality, affordable theatrical-arts entertainment for the Miami Valley of Southwest Ohio. We continue to raise the standard of artistic integrity and excellence while selecting a program that is both compelling and enlightening for our patrons. Secondly, this playhouse was formed to provide an outlet and training program for local talent to develop, showcase and mold their artistic talents.
Description
The Dayton Playhouse was founded in 1959 by a group of theatre enthusiasts whose mission was to develop a theatre troupe to showcase local talent and provide an affordable outlet for the Miami Valley to enjoy the performing arts. Dayton Playhouse has grown today to one of the oldest and largest theatres in southwest Ohio that uses only local talent. Since it's founding, Dayton Playhouse has been a training ground for young actors and a creative outlet for older performers who have chosen an alternative career choice to the theatre. Dayton Playhouse is proud to have actor Rob Lowe as one of its alumni. Over the years Dayton Playhouse has made its niche in the market by producing large scale musicals and is the home to the nationally renowned FutureFest...a festival of new works. In 2005, Dayton Playhouse returned to its roots and launched a new series of theatre called The FLIP Side. This new addition, modeled after what was once known as the Dayton Repertory Theatre, is devoted to presenting modern, fresh and challenging theatre to a mixed audience of loyal Dayton Playhouse patrons and faces that are new to our organization. Dayton Playhouse is located inside the Wegerzyn Gardens Metropark off of Siebenthaler Ave.
