Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Mission: Offering adults with mental illness caring, encouraging and direct service programs leading to a healthy and productive lifestyle within the main stream community; and reaching out to the community with informative educational programs to defeat the stigma of mental illness while promoting access to local services for treatment and recovery. Our Committment: We will continue to work towards narrowing the gap between numbers we now serve and the numbers of those who could benefit from our services. We will continue to work to better enhance the quality of life for our members. We will expand our efforts to reach out with awareness and education in the community to eliminate the stigma of mental illness.
Anchor House provides opportunities to enhance emotional health through situation-solution discussions and suport groups, goal setting and performance sessions, a friendly caring atmosphere, and social activites to assist in problem-solving. We also offer vocational and educational training opportunities such as computer training, cooking, nutrition, creative arts, self-esteem building activities, independent living skills, etc. Social and recreational activities offered include beach/picnic outings, library, physical fitness, sporting events, bowling, visits to local attractions.
At Anchor House, peers support one another in reciprocal relationships. Peers have "been there, done that" and can relate to others who are now in a similar situation. Research has shown that peer-run self-help groups yield improvement in psychiatric symptoms resulting in decreased hospitalization, larger social support networks and enhanced esteem and social functing.
