Mission Statement

The Harbor provides advocacy, prevention and support while promoting self-determination and hope for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

Description

The Harbor, originally founded as the Clatsop County Women's Resource Center in 1976 by a dedicated cadre of volunteers, offers advocacy, emergency shelter, emotional support and other services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. Our services are free and confidential and offered to all survivors regardless of race, gender, sexuality or ability. We operate a 24/7 crisis line and can send out skilled advocates to offer support on the spot if necessary. We will accompany survivors to the hospital or the courtroom at their request. At our drop in Advocacy Center in downtown Astoria, Oregon we offer survivors help in safety planning, self determination and help navigating the legal system. Our confidential shelter is here for those fleeing domestic violence at all hours of the day or night.

My experience as a volunteer with this agency has been both an education and one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. This organization actively assists, supports and empowers survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. If you care about community, your sons and daughters, your friends, your neighbors; the person walking past you on the street... you should definitely volunteer here! Not only do you help others but you learn so much about men and women, diversity, relationships, respect.. it's wild! Really, it's amazing. I recommend volunteering at the Harbor with my whole heart. The volunteers are the best! Chris, the volunteer coordinator, is wonderful. The staff is exceptional and willing to share their experience and knowledge. Come join us...join the fight against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence! You'll be amazed at the lives you touch and the people you empower! This REALLY IS the volunteer experience you're looking for... it's important. So are you. Come.
