MDA is now a voluntary health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for 43 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and community services and far-reaching professional and public health education. MDA is the first non-profit organization honored with the American Medical Association Lifetime Achievement Award for "significant and lasting contributions to the health and welfare of humanity."
Description
From the Macon District Office, we cover 35 counties and have fundraisers going on year round. From companies and schools selling shamrocks to daycare center and elementary schools participating in the hop-a-thon program to community lock-ups (where community business leaders are arrested and have to raise "bail" to get out of the MDA "jail") to golf tournaments. We also produce 2 Telethons during Labor Day weekend. We have a bowl-a-thon and an annual walk. And lastly, our fire departments (both large and small) raise money year-round for MDA.
