Tamika and Friends, Inc. is a national non profit organization designed to raise awareness about cervical cancer and its link to the human papillomavirus through a network of survivors and their friends .
Tamika and Friends, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to Cervical Cancer Awareness through HPV Education. The organization was founded in January of 2005 during National Cervical Cancer/HPV Awareness Month. The goal of the organization is to lower the numbers of cervical cancer diagnosis by educating women about the human papillomavirus (HPV).
We were very excited to host our first HPV Awareness Retreat on July 22, 2006 at the W Hotel in Atlanta, GA to educate women about HPV and its link to cervical cancer. Those in attendance left with a better understanding of their risk for HPV and/or cervical cancer. They were also trained to host their very own "House Party of fiVe" (HPV party) with the hopes to return to their communities to have parties and educate other women.
Our members have invested many volunteer hours to implement various projects, such as our HPV House Parties and various speaking engagements. The HPV House Parties are informative, fun ways for women to discuss HPV and its link to Cervical Cancer in a relaxed atmosphere. We have had several of these parties in the Washington, DC metro and Atlanta, GA areas. We have also had the opportunity to share information at the Visions in Feminism Conference as well as the Nation Council of Negro Women's "Dialogue of the Conversations" speaker series.
