Mission Statement

The Center for Urban Education (CUE) provides programs and services critical to urban education and its reform. The Center's primary mission is dedicated to improving the lives of urban youth through service, teaching and scholarship. Direct service educational support iinitiatives for at-risk urban students (K-12) have been created to heop urban at-risk youth complete high school, go on to college and a life of meaningful employment. Profesisonal development provided for the teachers and administrators who work with these at-risk students is based on the knowledge and experience gained from the development and implementation of successful program models combined with scholarly research. In-depth training by a staff of psychologists, social workers and MFA's is offered in the development of programs for college and career counseling, clinical services and internships, and urban curriculum for at-risk youth. The Center's staff work collaboratively with the School of Education faculty. It is the goal of the Center to provide national leadership in demonstrating models of service to at-risk populations and schools.

Description

The Center for Urban Education has been in existence as part of the Pace School of Education since 1987. At the current time the Center's programms include: Upward Bound, Liberty Partnerships Program, Learn and Serve America, AmeriCorps, Dwight D. Eisenhower professional development programs, a model Teacher Opportunity Corps Program, a model Pace Hispanic Outreach Program.
