Mission Statement

The mission of LAP Respite Center is to enhance the quality of life for family members and caregivers of individuals affected by life altering conditions due to disabilities, chronic illness or the risk of abuse or neglect by providing a wide-range of high quality, accessible and affordable life-span services.

Description

LAP Respite Center was originally established as a 501(c)(3), private, nonprofit agency providing lifespan respite services for families who care for children or adults with disabilities; and later expanded to serve those coping with chronic illnesses or age-related conditions. In 2012 there was merger between LAP Respite and ALFA, which stands for Active Living for Adults.

Prior to the merger, the City of East Lansing sponsored ALFA for 12 years through the Parks and Recreation department. This merger was a great match since our service profiles were so similar, and as a result we have created a much stronger mission-based organization serving more together than we ever did apart.
