Description

As soon as you walk in the door at ZUMIX, you'll hear our sound. A Hip-Hop band rehearsing, a young student practicing piano scales, or a group of teens swapping stories about their lives as they prepare to write their first songs.

ZUMIX programs inspire young people to explore the arts, particularly music, as a means of self-expression.

One of the liveliest organizations in Boston, ZUMIX offers year-round programs in songwriting, live performance, instrumental instruction, music technology and Radio (ZUMIX 1630AM)

ZUMIX is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) cultural organization dedicated to building community through the arts. Located in East Boston, [A1] MA, ZUMIX provides top-quality cultural programming as an alternative way for young people to deal with frustration, anger and fear, and as a method of building cultural understanding and acceptance in one of Boston's most diverse neighborhoods.

Our work is based on the involvement and empowerment of racially and ethnically diverse, low-income, at-risk youth both as program participants and as an integral part of our organization. Our programs primarily involve youth ages 8-18. We serve a mixture of 42% Latino/a (both Central American and Caribbean); 30% White (largely Italian); 20% Black (including African-American, Haitian and Jamaican), and 8% Asian (Cambodian, Vietnamese and Chinese) youth
