Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.

To source and administer private donations, maximize philanthropic efforts, and develop strategic alliances with American corporations, foundations, alumni and other organizations, primarily to provide scholarships, support academic programs and facilitate development projects at The University of the West Indies (UWI). The UWI community is made up of the 16 member countries of Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago.
In supporting the UWI, the AFUWI strives to enhance that institution’s ability to play a pivotal role in educating a cadre of young people who are at the forefront of Caribbean and global thought, imagination and action.
Currently less than 6% of the population in the English speaking Caribbean has tertiary education. This is largely because, many who are eligible are unable to afford the cost as these small island states continue to grapple with the challenges of a development. These include the environmental and climatic concerns, crime and violence, drugs, high unemployment and dwindling natural resources.
AFUWI therefore raises funds to provide financial aid to many deserving students who often have to make a choice between food and tuition.
