Description

The Jeish Home Lifecare Community Services Volunteer Support Program is designed to help alleviate isolation for home-bound elderly who may experience loneliness. Volunteers will provide companionship to those who may have limited contact with family or friends. The program includes sites in Manhattan and the Bronx.

Volunteers will be given an opportunity to receive training on how to communicate and teach computers logic to clients. Clients with computers and internet access can get help with learning to use the compter and troubleshoot problems. OATS is the company that will provide the computer training.

Doula to accompany and comfort

Well-trained volunteers can provide significant emotional and social support, comfort and practical assistance to patients near the end of life. Whether the patients are in a hospital, nursing home or at home, the dying process brings intense emotions including fear and loneliness.

Doula to Accompany and Comfort is a non-sectarian program of the Shira Ruskay center of the the Jewish Board of Family and Childdren's Services.

Animal Therapy

Tha Good Dog foundation provides and coordinates therapy dog services afor people in helath care, social services and community organizations. a dog's unconditional love provides a powerful form of therapy. Interested volunteers can participate.
