Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Our goals: Help middle and high school students to achieve a scientific understanding of their world that builds upon their own cultural perspective using experiential learning. Provide the necessary tools and support to sustain long-term change in the instructional methods of the teachers and the learning strategies of the students. Create a mechanism for under-represented New Mexico middle and high school students to benefit from professional scientists' and Science Education Solutions' scientific and education expertise. Develop an integrated science, mathematics, history, and language arts curriculum centered around long-term experiments that exercise the students' inquiry and problem-solving skills, as well as their observations and communication skills.
We are providing an educational experience for minority, primarily Native American, middle and high school students in which they explore the environment surrounding them from historical, cultural, and scientific perspectives. Students are conducting long-term investigations and monitoring the Earth system in and around ther tribal lands and the neighboring northern New Mexico environs. The students and teachers are learning about Earth processes through experimentation in the classroom throughout the school year and during a weeklong summer science camp with professional Earth and environmental scientists.
