Mission Statement

The Safe and Sound Campaign is Baltimore's movement to improve conditions for children, youth and families.

People have come together from all over the city to make this a reality. They are standing up to say that conditions are unacceptable for too many of Baltimore's kids. And they are taking action to turn things around -- so all children have the opportunity to be their best and have realistic expectations for a bright future.

Baltimore's Safe and Sound Campaign is made up of everyday people -- thousands from all walks of life -- who want to make sure our kids succeed. It is a Campaign with a clear vision and meaningful goals. And through its citywide strategies, it is working.

Description

The Safe and Sound Campaign sponsors and partners would like to invite you or your organization to volunteer at the Baltimore Opportunity Summit: Let's turn this town around! This event will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2007 from 12:00 noon - 5:00 p.m. at the Baltimore Convention Center in Exhibit Hall "G".

Under the leadership of Mayor Sheila Dixon, the Summit is being organized by the Safe and Sound Campaign and supported by members of the Baltimore City Council and co-sponsored by community organizations, businesses, foundations and citizens who advance opportunities for Baltimore's children to grow up safe, healthy, and educated in nurturing families and safe neighborhoods.

What will happen at the Summit?

The Summit will provide an opportunity for residents to re-imagine Baltimore as a city where every child grows up in a strong and healthy family and every individual has a fair chance to reach their full potential and live the American dream.

The Summit will serve as a moment for Baltimoreans to shout "Enough!" with one resounding voice. Attendees will participate in a disciplined and researched based referendum on local conditions and spending priorities. The Summit will feature strategies, programs and policies already in place, and with measurable promise to turn this situation around - as a direct result of intentional public policies and investments.

Everyone will have the chance to vote on millions of dollars in funding requests to expand specific and proven Good Start and Second Chance opportunities that reduce our need for costly Last Resort programs like prisons, juvenile detention and foster care.

While the Summit will ask participants to address significant and weighty matters, the spirit of the day will be much like the neighborhood fairs Baltimore is known for - neighbors coming together with family and friends for a full day of celebration, entertainment, food and fun.
