Mission Statement

To provide and support early literacy services and programs for children living in Berkeley, California primarily to those age 0-5. First stage of operations will bring a program that mails a book a month to Berkeley residents aged 0-60 months. Books are a gift to the child.

Description

Our first stage of operations is to bring a home delivery book service of developmentally appropriate books to residents of Berkeley aged 0-60 months. Books are a gift to the child. All children aged 0-60 months in Berkeley's city limits are eligible to be registered from birh up to 59 months.

Stage two will establish a mobile early literacy center to visit micro neighborhoods on a regular basis. It will offer drop in story times and book browsing/borrowing/trading times as well as scheduled trainings for parents and story times for preschoolers. In addition, it will house a stock of books chosen to reflect the interests, preferences, and characteristics of Berkeley's many varied communities from which parents and children can choose to supplement Imagination Library's titles. The Mobile Center will be housed in a converted bus.
