The vision of Lafayette Habitat for Humanity is a community where everyone has a safe, decent, and affordable place to live. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities and is a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty. In addition to building homes, Lafayette Habitat also provides critical home repairs. The core repair crew undertakes minor repairs and improvements for homeowners, such as installing a wheel chair ramp, painting the exterior or interior, removing rotting steps, etc. These repairs help improve the homeowners quality of life and improve the safety of their homes. Thank you for considering serving alongside us to build a safe, affordable home for a local family in Acadiana. Our mission is to put God's love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. On a Habitat for Humanity construction site, the potential tasks and jobs that you will help with may include the following: framing, roof decking/felting, siding/exterior & interior trim work, exterior & interior painting/paint prep, landscaping, window & door installation, cabinet & home appliance installation, flooring (primarily vinyl plank & tile), drywall patching, and cleaning Please be sure to wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing. Those with hair that could obstruct vision, or get snagged, please use hair clips or hair ties to prevent those occurrences. Please hydrate the night before and morning before serving to prevent any heat-related issues. We will have fans, tents, and water to help keep you cool. Habitat ReStore is open to the public (Tuesday through Saturday, 10am-6pm) and sell new as well as gently used home improvement products such as furniture, light fixtures, home decor, and more. Plus, we keep usable materials out of landfills by recycling the materials into home building, remodeling, and creative art projects. All ReStore profits go back into Habitat for Humanity's mission to build affordable homes in Lafayette, Louisiana. Location: Habitat ReStore - 3124 NE Evangeline Thruway, Lafayette, 70507 Description:ReStore Treasure Hunters help staff sort through knick-knacks, novelties, and trinkets to find the hidden treasures within each donation. You never know what you will find! We also have generous donations from various stores and organize these donations for customers to easily find. Commitment: We'd love to have you as often as you are available to join us! We also welcome groups. If you have a group of five or more, please reach out to us at "volunteer@habitatlafayette.org" to schedule with our volunteer manager. Volunteer Requirements:Minimum age to volunteer is 16.
