Mission Statement

Trees Across The Miles volunteers experience the joy of planting trees near urban roadways, creating beauty and life that benefits the community and our environment.

Description

Urban highways are one of the most environmentally degraded landscapes in our country, with air pollution, large quantities of salt, and poor soil quality. We work to revitalize these areas in the Chicago region by planting a variety of tree species that clean the air, stop soil erosion, reduce atmospheric carbon, and prevent noise pollution from highways. We have been planting hundreds of trees each year and this impact can expand with additional help from volunteers. Our ability to create life and beauty along highways depends on community support for planting trees.

We have achieved a success rate of over 90% by using three different species of pine trees and a protective netting. Two of the founders have extensive practical and education experience as arborists and the organization has ten years of experience planting trees in this harsh environment.
