Mission Statement
Clinch Powell Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council is a rural community development organization that has been serving the region since 1990. Our mission is to serve the needs of our community, to protect our environment, and to enhance the quality of life of the people of the area through leadership, education, volunteerism, and action. The RC&D serves as the lead entity and fiscal agent for the Clinch-Powell Enterprise Community.
Description
Clinch-Powell RC&D has been actively working in our community for over a decade. We provide educational programs to our youth, such as Conservation Camp, a 3 day event that teaches 6th graders about the environment and how to protect it, and Envirothon, an competition were area high-school student show their environmental knowledge. We also help students in our area by providing service-learning experiences through our Appalachia CARES program, part of the national AmeriCORPS program. We have played a leading role in regional heritage and tourism efforts and we have fostered programs design to develop leadership skills in local residents.
