Mission Statement

OUR VISION IS
to build a nurturing community that provides resources and training to empower members to live out Christ's best for their lives.

OUR MISSION IS
to serve Christ by providing literacy and technology programs to our community in Humboldt Park.

THE QUESTION IS
what will you do with Bethel Family Center?

Description

Bethel Community Library provides technology and educational programs to our community where few other opportunities exist. Operating out of Bethel Lutheran Church, we host three-hour open Internet access periods twice a week that attract all ages of neighbors, from toddlers to adults. We also host an after-school mentoring and tutoring program for pre-schoolers and school-age children, starting them on a track toward success. Each time we open, we welcome adults who are applying to every job they can find, teens who beg to not be sent home at the end of the day, kids who have nowhere else to type their research report (that was usually due yesterday).

Since our start one year ago, our attendance has grown exponentially. In a community where the low scholastic achievement and unemployment are overwhelming, our visitors' enthusiasm for technology, literacy, and new opportunities truly raises up hope.
