Mission Statement

The Lupus Research Institute is uniquely dedicated to novel research in lupus.

Recognizing that most major medical breakthroughs come from unexpected directions, the LRI fosters and supports only the highest-ranked new science to prevent, treat and cure lupus.

Description

The Lupus Research Institute (LRI) was founded in 2000 by patients, their families and leading scientists to spur bold new approaches to a complex disease. With a mandate to challenge conventional thinking and an insistence on innovation, the LRI encourages researchers nationwide to think outside the box and pursue novel, unorthodox, yet scientifically sound hypotheses with the potential to create new scientific understanding and accelerate the development of safe and effective treatments.

The Lupus Research Institute also works with patient groups across the country through its National Coalition of members and partners. Each of these organizations supports the research efforts of the LRI and provides social services and educational programs for people with lupus in their local area.
