CitySoil Farm needs your help! We are in our busy harvesting season, and we really need more hands helping to harvest plums, apples, zucchini, tomatoes, and more! We are looking for volunteers to help at CitySoil farm, a food bank farm in Renton. Volunteer shifts are Tuesdays from 9am-12pm. Volunteers can leave with a bag of produce after their shift, take home free compost, and will learn sustainable gardening techniques. No experience necessary, just a positive attitude and a willingness to get dirty. We welcome folks to bring friends and family. Youth under 15 with adult supervision are welcome! About CitySoil CitySoil is an outdoor classroom as well as a giving garden for the White Center Food Bank. In a typical year, we provide the White Center Foodbank with 4,000-5,000 lbs of fresh, culturally relevant produce. Our produce donations are especially important as food banks are experiencing increased customer need and decreased donations. The farm is located at a wastewater treatment plant, and is a demonstration site for recycled water, biosolid composting, and sustainable gardening. In a normal year, our farm is staffed by lots of volunteers as well as service learning groups. We are currently very understaffed, and would love support from individuals, families, and community groups. We are looking for ideally folks who can commit to at least one shift per week, for at least a two-month long period. Ideal opportunity for retired folks or college students looking to gain experience in environmental work. We are also looking for groups that would like to join us for a one time project, or on a regular basis. Please contact us to coordinate. Due to being part of the wastewater treatment plant, the site is not available for un-registered drop in volunteering. Volunteers will complete an orientation, and work with us to make a set volunteering schedule.
