Mission Statement
Upper Valley MEND's mission is to meet each need with dignity. We envision an empowered community with equitable access to food, housing, healthcare and emergency assisitance.
Description
Upper Valley MEND consists of service programs aimed at meeting the community’s basic food, shelter and healthcare needs. The Community Cupboard food bank serves an average of 362 families a month and provides emergency services such as temporary shelter at local hotels, and assistance with rent, mortgages, transportation and utilities. The Upper Valley Free Clinic provides free urgent health and dental care and served 304 patients in 2018. SHARE Community Land Trust provides affordable homeownership in the Upper Valley and currently serves 67 children and adults through 20 homes. Cornerstone Community is a home for six adults with developmental disabilities, where they live as independently as possible with dignity and respect. MEND also operates two retail stores that provide income to support our programs: Jubilee Global Gifts, a fair trade global gift store that supports artisans in the developing world, and Das Thrift Haus, which sells low-cost clothing and household goods.
