Description

What do we do at JAKES Club? We provide free therapeutic horsemanship and horseback riding to children with minimum special needs in the Kansas City area and also provide free equine training to our volunteers. Training is individual, according to each person's capabilities and interests. We also teach the business aspect of our organization, and involve volunteers in our fundraising and community service events. How do we do it? Our skilled staff provides beginning horsemanship and riding training to our volunteers, who in turn use their newly-acquired skills to help children with special needs. Our curriculum consists of three main texts:The Holy Bible, for use in our outreach programs; Certified Horsemanship Association Level 1 - Beginning Manuel and The Horse, The Handicapped and The Therapeutic Riding Team text, for use in our Therapeutic Saddle Club Team Leader training. Combined with hands-on training, to achieve our objective: providing a safe, loving environment for riders and volunteers.

What are the entrepreneurial and educational benefits of our programs? Adult volunteers and children aged 10 and older are trained by our staff. They are taught many aspects of business ownership, from office skills to barn maintenance to volunteer scheduling, as well as the responsibility of caring for live animals. Safety is extremely important and our motto, Before the horse, the helmet, is strictly enforced.
