Mission Statement

Nourish is a South African non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting local communities, promoting social responsibility
and encouraging environmental education.
Nourish strives to improve the lives of people and the environment We believe that the environmental integrity of a
community is inextricably linked to the strength of its people, body and soul. Our objective is to find an integrative approach
to community empowerment that:
• educates communities on nutrition, sustainability and the vital role of the environment in their lives
• builds capacity in environmental entrepreneurship thereby improving livelihood options and access to good nutrition
• provides assistance in creating platforms through which the public and businesses can actualise transparent and sustainable
community upliftment
• promotes social responsibility amongst the general public
Our purpose flows from our passion for Africa as our home, from our belief that improving our local communities is an
investment in our collective future. In all aspects of this work, we strive to create an environment of encouragement,
empowerment, compassion, and mutual respect.

Nourish runs a number of on-going projects:

• Secret Santa
• Alexandra Township Photography project
In addition, Nourish is engaged with two building projects:
• Building a crèche at AACOSIDA orphanage in Matola, near Maputo, Mozambique to provide a source of sustainable income to the
orphanage
• Building a community recycled craft centre & library on a hectare of land granted to Nourish by the community of Sigagule, near
Acornhoek, Mpumalanga

Fantastic experience - travelling from Australia to South Africa was well worth it purely for Nourish. Staff were great - professional and fun. Shout out Donald, the volunteer supervisor - our time would not have been the same without you. Meeting volunteers from diverse backgrounds was awesome, and the activities Nourish provided/organised (such as horse ride safari, weekly town trips, and a weekend at Kruger) were unforgettable (and stress free!). Our volunteering time was spent with the green kids afterschool program, on-site crèche, local outreach, and harvesting/planting chilies on the farm. Our stay at Shik Shack (Nourish backpackers) was wayyy too short - will be back in the future and hopefully for a longer time :)
