Mission Statement
The Nevada Commission for National and Community Service strengthens Nevada through AmeriCorps and volunteerism.
Description
Nevadans of all ages and backgrounds are engaged in community-based services. Since its inception in 1998, the organization has trained, guided, and coordinated thousands of volunteers that have directly and indirectly touched the lives of every citizen in Nevada. The NCNCS programs and projects demonstrate the strength of volunteerism through efforts to address literacy education, environmental, gang-prevention, inclusion programs for disabled youth, assistance to homeless veterans and a variety of other human service needs. The NCNCS currently funds seven AmeriCorps programs with 166 dedicated members serving in six of Nevada's 17 counties. The organization awards more than $600,000 in federal formula grants and another $600,000 in competitive grants for AmeriCorps programs to local government, non-profit, community, and faith-based organizations.
