Description

Scope of the Organization: Word for the Nation Nonprofit, Inc. was organized in 2009 in an effort to provide educational services and support to at-risk youth. We provide entrepreneurship, life skills and leadership training, abstinence-only education, and academic tutoring to adolescents and young adults aged 10 - 19. We currently operate in Clayton County, Georgia. Our organization operates under the direction of 7 board members. The key staff includes the Executive Director, Assistant Director, Administrative Assistant and a team of volunteer educators and tutors. Our current community partners are Opulentia, Inc., Little Ones Learning Center, Chase Bank, Abrite Signs, Chick-fil-A, Staples, and Onsite Computer Training.

Clayton Youth Impressions Scholarship Program: This program awards scholarships to high school graduates and GED recipients that are have financial and social hardships due to situations such as homelessness, parental absenteeism, the family income being at or below poverty level, or are youth that are aging out of foster care.

Leading Nations Entrepreneurship and Life Skills Program: We target adolescents primarily in Clayton County, that are economically challenged, lacking in leadership skills, academics and education on the physical, emotional and psychological effects of sexual activity before marriage. Our primary goal is to provide leadership skills, life skills and entrepreneurship training in an effort to decrease the number of high school dropouts in the area and give them an option to create the best future possible by reducing risky behavior. This summer program will enhance their math, research, communication, critical thinking and language arts skills by teaching the participants how to legally start a business, market the business, balance the budgets and make profits.

Leading Nations Collaborative: The organization plans to collaborate with other nonprofit and for- profit organizations that have an interest in helping at- risk youth. We will communicate with other organizations in Clayton County to combine services and products offered to youth to promote sustainability and decrease duplication of services in the County.

We currently have new programs and services in addition to our existing programs offered since 2009. The new program is InGroup is launching in Fall 2014 and a new scholarship, Clayton Youth Impressions Scholarship, is opening for applications in Summer 2014. New services for 2014 include GED Preparation and Literacy Development Services. Please review the brief summaries of our programs below.
