Mission Statement

CHI is a non-profit educational organization founded in 1980 by Tom and Lilka Areton to promote international understanding and goodwill through people-to-people exchanges. We believe that the best way to build bridges of friendship and trust among people is to experience directly each others' customs, languages and values. To live, study or work together leads to a transformational experience of acceptance and genuine affection. Young people who live with Americans as a family member, participate in the local community, or train in an American business open their minds to the values of volunteering, democracy and freedom. CHI aspires to share the benefits of cultural interchange with the many nations of the earth in the deply held conviction that such exchanges ultimately contribute to a more prosperous and peaceful world.

Description

CHI places high school age exchange students with host families in local communities and works with schools, students and families throughout the placement.

CHI works with groups of short stay students both junior high and high school age for periods of up to 4 weeks placing them in host families for their stay and teaching them English and showing them a bit of America while they are here.

CHI has an outbound program for the above listed exchanges as well as teaching English in other countries.

CHI has an Au Pair Program where families can hire an Au Pair or nanny to live in their home and help with their children.
