Mission Statement
MGR empowers under-resourced youth to create positive community change. We envision a community where youth from all socio-economic backgrounds are making positive social, physical, and intellectual choices, ultimately contributing to a productive society.
Description
MGR creates positive community change through designing and implementing programming in Health, Environmental Justice, and the Arts. These programs are offered during the school day, during out-of-school time, and as community based initiatives.
In Chicago we focus heavily on health initiatives and provide programming for all age groups in various ways. Some of our health initiatives include Team M3-MGR Mentoring Marathon, The Food Circle: Community Food Pantry, Violet Lotus:-Yoga for Youth, and (g)love: Winter Necessities for Those Who are Homeless.

There is also a location at 28th and W Jackson, on Thursday's, that this Food Circle occurs at too. I've been here 3 Thursdays so far, w/my boyfriend. We Love it!
Very friendly volunteers (both long term and newbies), an AWESOME employee of MGR (who has just been laid off b/c of loss of funding, along with 4 other employees-I'm saddened because she was loved by so many of the residents & had this happy persona).
Around 10:15am: you meet the van that is full of food donated by Whole Foods, etc, load it on carts, bring it into the building, separate it according to protein/beverage/vegetables/breads/cereals/canned, then make 35-40 bags of food consisting of a random collection of foods . Hand out bags of food according to lottery system of #'s to residents, clean up, vacuum, squash boxes & take them outside.
Leave happy knowing you made a difference for a week for the ladies of this location.
