Mission Statement

PSST provides tutoring and mentoring programs that encourage Healdsburg public school students to continue their education through and beyond high school; in other words, to be lifelong learners.

Description

Make a difference in a child's life....make a bigger difference in your own!

Founded in 2009, PSST currently has more than 25 volunteers tutoring and mentoring Healdsburg junior and high school students.

At Healdsburg Junior High School, now the major focus of the PSST program, approximately 12 volunteers each work with one to three 6th and 7th grade students in a combination program of tutoring and mentoring to assist them both academically in math and English subjects and in the school community.

Mentors generally start working with students in 6th grade and continue to work with them through 9th grade. Tutor coordinators carefully monitor progress within each grade level, matching tutors and students while offering help when needed.

At the high school level, which is winding down, 12-14 volunteers work as PSST mentors meeting regularly with student mentees. Some volunteers provide tutoring services, but all act as mentors, guiding students as well as developing and maintaining personal relationships. Mentors monitor students’ academic progress, help keep their grades up and connect students with any needed school or community services.

Jeff Harding, former Superintendent of Healdsburg Unified School District, paid PSST the highest compliment when he said, "The PSST team is a model for other communities to emulate. Thank you for your contribution to the success of our students."
