Mission Statement
The VH1 Save The Music Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring instrumental music education programs in America’s public schools, and raising awareness about the importance of music as part of each child’s complete education.
Description
Founded in 1997, VH1 Save The Music was the first organization in existence dedicated to restoring music programs in America's schools.
VH1 Save The Music works with partners to identify cities in need to participate in the program each year. Once a community is selected, the Foundation works diligently with local cable systems, public school boards and administrators to restore beginning instrumental music programs where they no longer exist. To be eligible for a grant of musical instruments, the school system must conduct the music program as part of the regular school day, and budget for a qualified music teacher for instruction.
To date, for nearly 20 years, the VH1 Save The Music Foundation has successfully restored and sustained:
- $53 million worth of new musical instruments
- 2,094 public schools in more than
- 247 school districts around the country
- Impacting the lives of over 3 million public school students
