Description

Goodwill Industries was founded in 1902 by the Reverend Edgar Helms. His philosophy was simple: giving people in need a "hand up", not a hand out. For over one hundred years, Goodwill has shown a commitment to expanding occupational opportunities for people with disabilities and other special needs. Job training has played a critical role in our philosophy of empowering individuals with the skills they need to find meaningful employment. Job placement is one of the key measures of our success.

Goodwill Industries International is now a network of 207 autonomous member organizations in the United States , Canada and 23 other countries. Together, our goal for the new millennium is to serve 20 million people by the year 2020.

Goodwill Industries of the Redwood Empire was founded in 1974 and recently celebrated its 30-year anniversary as one of the largest non-profit organizations in the North Bay Region. Our service territory includes Sonoma , Napa , Mendocino, Lake , Trinity and Humboldt Counties .

We provide a wide range of job training, placement and support programs for people with disabilities and other special needs. To support these programs, we rely on government funding and revenue generated in our retail stores from the sale of donated goods.

Last year, we served 3500 clients in a variety of job training and life-skills programs and placed nearly 700 of them into competitive employment at an average salary of $10.83/hr.
