HISTORY
Formed in 1973, in response to the needs of a young but rapidly aging community, the Los Alamos Visiting Nurse service (LAVNS) is a vital and growing Health Care Provider in the County of Los Alamos and the surrounding communities.
Organized as a non-profit agency (501-C3) the LAVNS has been Federally Certified since its inception, State Licensed from the initiation of licensing requirements and an active participant in requiring coverage of home health services by private insurance.
Originally, the agency provided only the services of Skilled Nursing and Physical Therapy, however, by 1978 the services of Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology were added allowing those individuals served to receive full rehabilitation coverage.
As home care grew, so did the LAVNS. We were accepted by the United Way, certified by many private insurance providers, involved in legislative efforts to reduce medical costs and participants of committees that advised both State and federal regulators.
Since 1990, the LAVNS has been a full service home health care provider offering Skilled Nursing services, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology services, Medical Social Services and the assistance of Home Health Aides.
In 1994 the LAVNS became a State Licensed and Federally Certified Hospice, completing our goal to be a fully-reimbursed health care agency in Northern New Mexico.
In the spring of 1996 we were pleased to announce the opening of Los Rios Home Health Care and Hospice our branch office. Offering the same dedication to patients, physicians and community that is the Visiting Nurse Service trademark.
In today's quickly changing health care delivery systems and home care's rapid growth environment the LAVNS is positioned to be a significant player in today's market. With contracts in place with multiple HMO's, large DME and IV service providers as well as strong working relationships with referring physicians we look forward to a bright and busy future.
Additionally, we provide the specialty services of Psychiatric Nursing and Pediatric Nursing.
