Mission Statement

The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society (MHRHS) is dedicated to saving animals - strays - abandoned - injured. We will not rest until we have ample "empty" space to save all animals in our care.

Description

The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHRHS) is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. We serve our surrounding communities by providing a place to house and care for animals who have been abandoned, abused, surrendered by owners, strayed from home or are otherwise homeless, either temporarily or permanently. We provide basic care for the animals while they await their return to a home or adoption. We also spay and neuter all animals that are physically able to be, prior to their leaving our facility.

The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society of Menands, New York, has been providing shelter for stray, abused and unwanted animals since 1887. Our refuge receives over 12,000+ animals annually from Albany and Rensselaer counties. Remember that the animals that we call "pets" have been domesticated to the extent that they depend on their human companions for all the necessities for their entire life. When their owners can no longer meet these needs, the animals are brought to the Humane Society where they are welcomed and given basic care during their stay at the shelter.
