To begin volunteering, you must first complete a New Volunteer Orientation shift, on either a Wednesday 6-8pm, or a Saturday, 11:30am-1:00pm Regular Librarian volunteer shifts are every Saturday from 9:45am-11:30am, and 11:00am-1:15pm, Wednesday evenings from 5:45pm-8:15pm, with special Tool Repair Shifts Saturdays, 10am-12pm, and Wednesdays, 6-8pm, and we ask for volunteers to commit to one shift a month to help us stay open for members. The Green Lents Community Tool Library is a free resource for residents of Lents, Powellhurst-Gilbert, Pleasant Valley, Foster-Powell, Mt. Scott-Arleta, Brentwood-Darlington, Montavilla, Hazelwood, Mill Park, Glenfair, and Centennial neighborhoods.. It functions like a book library, except tools or other project materials are checked out instead. We have a seed library and tool resale rack as well. We promote access over ownership, and encourage a culture of repair and creative reuse to reduce waste and consumption. Our members are given the opportunity to save money by simply borrowing the tools they need to complete their home improvement projects. We're also excited to be expanding the tool library at this time to include an ongoing garden swap (with starts, soil, seeds) as well as limited mutual aid supplies such as masks and sanitizer. The Tool Library is run by wonderful volunteers and would not exist without the help of people like you! It's very easy to help out, and there will always be another friendly volunteer there with you. It's a great way to meet your neighbors and maybe learn a little bit about tools too! With the current circumstances, offering the community the tools and food-growing supplies to be more self-sufficient makes this library a vital resource in times of crisis. Tasks can include: - helping members check tools in and out - signing up new members - answering the phone and emails - organizing seed library and tools - find the right tools for members, answering any questions - opening and closing the tool library - taking in donations - orienting people to the space - share information about other Green Lents Programs, We ask volunteers to sign up for at least 1 shift per month after their orientation shift. This greatly helps to share the work and keep the tool library open. Residents of one of the 11 neighborhoods we serve are preferable. No knowledge of tools necessary, just a willingness to show up and help! Sign up at bit.ly/toollibrarysignup Tool library team meetings and appreciation parties are held on a quarterly basis. We have appreciation gifts after a certain amount of shifts are done such as shirts and camper mugs! Want to utilize your skills and get involved in other ways? You can also help with: - fundraising - translation (Spanish, Russian, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese) - community outreach - pollinator habitat plantings - board membership Email kristin@greenlents.org
