Mission Statement

Pelican Island and Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuges preserve, protect and enhance wildlife habitat. Archie Carr is primarily focused on endangered sea turtles. Pelican Island is in the middle of a multi-million dollar habitat restoration imitative. In addition we maintain public use areas and provide opportunities for the public to view wildlife.

Description

Pelican Island is America's first National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1903. Over recent years we have experienced a 75 percent drop in staffing and are currently managing both Pelican Island and Archie Carr with two full time staff members. Volunteers not only enhance our programs but are vital to our success.
