Mission Statement

Global Health through Education, Training and Service (GHETS) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization based in the USA, dedicated to improving health in developing countries through innovations in education and service.

GHETS provides start-up grants to local training institutions in low-income countries, and the technical help to launch and improve programs that prepare and support healthcare workers in rural and poor communities. We believe that well trained and supported doctors, nurses and allied health workers are key to sustainable change.

Description

GHETS provides start-up grants to local training institutions in low-income countries, and the technical help to launch and improve programs that prepare and support healthcare workers in rural and poor communities. We believe that well trained and supported doctors, nurses and allied health workers are key to sustainable change.

GHETS acts as a catalyst in the early stages of project development, often bringing together potential partners and facilitating initial needs assessment, planning and implementation. The intention, however, is always to promote project independence, allowing projects to adapt to the particular needs of local communities. When larger grant support is needed, GHETS may help local project leaders identify relevant funding sources.

GHETS supports its partners by:

  1. Providing seed grants for pilot projects in the areas of health professions education and service
  2. Facilitating regional and international partnerships between organizations and individuals. These partnerships, which may consist of exchanges of staff and faculty, consultations and ongoing distance communication, build the capacity of health service and education organizations to identify and address priority health needs.
  3. Helping partners access education and service models that are relevant to local challenges and identify external funding and resource opportunities.
